POLITICO has an interesting article today on the race for 10th place in the latest Republican presidential polls. It’s not everyday that running for 10th place matters, but it does in this case.

The first presidential debate in Cleveland is Aug. 6 and Fox News is using results from the latest national polls as of Aug. 4 to decide the 10 candidates that make the Fox News debate.

You can listen to the debate live at 9 p.m. on Aug. 6 on WHIO Radio AM 1290 and News 95.7 FM. It will stream live at www.whio.com

The POLITICO article points out several efforts recent GOP candidates have taken to boost their standing.

“Rick Perry called Donald Trump a “cancer.” Rick Santorum racked up five national TV hits in a single day. And Lindsey Graham filmed himself setting his cellphone on fire.

Welcome to the race for 10th place,” the article by Katie Glueck says.

“According to POLITICO’s latest average of national polls, eight candidates are looking like a lock for the debate: Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee and Ben Carson. Perry and Chris Christie are in for now, but only barely”

The article says Ohio Gov. John Kasich still has a chance, and his poll numbers are rising since he joined the race last week.

“Ohio Gov. John Kasich even appears to have timed his official launch to give him an 11th-hour polling bump that could vault him into the top 10. New Day for America, the super PAC supporting Kasich’s campaign, has procured several ad buys in New Hampshire, an effort to boost the governor’s low name identification — and according to an NBC-Marist poll, that investment appeared to be paying off, with Kasich currently standing at fourth place in the state. A CNN/ORC poll from over the weekend found Kasich cracking the top 10.”
