Kasich says former opponent couldn’t get into OSU, turns out he did

As he officially announced he would run for president Tuesday at Ohio State University, Gov. John Kasich – an OSU graduate — joked that in 1982 he ran against Democratic congressman Bob Shamansky – “a guy who got one of his degrees from Harvard.”

As the audience laughed at the way Kasich pronounced Harvard as “Ha-vad,” the governor added, “That’s when I knew I had an edge. Clearly he couldn’t have gotten into Ohio State.”

Jack Torry in our Washington Bureau says that Bob Shamansky clearly qualified for Ohio State since he earned an undergraduate degree in 1947 from The Ohio State University before earning a law degree from Harvard.

Kasich defeated Shamansky in 1982. Shamansky died in 2011.
