The speech, which he did without a prompter, was vintage Kasich. He talked about people he met, his religion, family and issues. It sounded a lot like the state of the state speeches he gives each year.

To some in the national press, the speech seemed to ramble.

Chris Cillizza in the Washington Post said “Kasich rambled through a 45-minute speech littered with stories about people he had met on the street during his life. It never seemed to coalesce into any sort of coherent takeaway or message. “

It will be interesting to see how his remarks play out in New Hampshire and Iowa.
