Cuomo service, weather may impact vote for House speaker today

As Speaker of the House John Boehner runs for his third term in charge of the House of Representatives, the number of GOP members against him continued to grow … but not likely by enough to stop him.

Politico reported early Tuesday that Boehner’s chances may actually improve because many House members are expected to miss the vote because of funeral services for former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo and bad weather across the country.

Jessica Wehrman in the Washington Bureau reported today that Boehner needs 217 votes to remain speaker and Republicans have 246 seats, giving Boehner a cushion of support.

We will have live coverage of the vote for speaker in the House this afternoon.
