Portman chief of staff stepping down

Jack Torry in our Washington Bureau is reporting that Rob Lehman, who has served as chief of staff to Sen. Rob Portman, is leaving in January and will be replaced by longtime Washington lobbyist Mark Isakowitz, a former adviser to the late Rep. Paul Gillmor, R-Port Clinton.

Lehman, who has served as chief of staff during Portman’s years in the Senate, as director of White House Office of Management and Budget, and U.S. trade representative, will take a job early next year in the private sector.

“Rob will be truly missed by me and the rest of the team, but I have no doubt he will excel in the next chapter of his remarkable career,” Portman said in a statement.

Isakowitz, known as a confidant to House Speaker John Boehner, R-West Chester Twp., has been a lobbyist in Washington since 1998. Portman said Isakowitz “brings a wealth of experience to the job.” Isakowitz is originally from Cleveland.
